Citi Thank You Premier Card $500+ Sign Up Bonus

Posted by Madison on March 16, 2018

The bonus on the Citi Thank You Premier Card is back!

Citi is offering 50,000 bonus points worth $500 in cash or $625 in airfare.

The bonus on this card comes and goes. Make sure you pick it up during a 50,000 point bonus offer instead of a lower offer or no offer.

I appreciate that Citi has eliminated the old multi-year spending requirement that was in place a few years ago when we first picked up this card. It’s now an easy, straight forward offer.

The $500+ sign up bonus is our Free Money Friday offer.

How to Get Your $500 Sign Up Bonus

  1. Sign up for the Citi ThankYou Premier Card*.
  2. Spend $4,000 in the first 3 months.
  3. Earn 50,000 bonus points.

More on Citi Thank You

Earning points. You will earn 3 ThankYou Points for every $1 spent on purchases for travel and gas, 2 ThankYou Points for every $1 spent on purchases for dining at restaurants and entertainment and 1 ThankYou Point per $1 spent on other purchases.

Redeem Points. Some of my favorite options for redeeming Citi Thank you points to a cash equivalent used to be the mortgage or student loan payment workaround. However, Citi now allows you to redeem thank you points at the same rate (1 cent per point) for a statement credit or a cash reward. It’s now very easy to turn your 50,000 points into a $500 cash reward if you don’t want to use it for travel!

24 Month Rule. Pay special attention to the 24 month rule outlined in the terms in conditions above. You can’t earn the bonus points if you opened or closed another Thank You card in the past 24 months.

Comments to Citi Thank You Premier Card $500+ Sign Up Bonus

  1. I am working towards spending goals with other credit cards but this is a good deal — even if you have to pay the yearly fee the second year. Do you know when this offers expires? I want to sign up but not at the moment

    • Hi Katie,

I’m not sure how long it will last. I looked up last time they did the offer and it went through December, but it launched a few weeks earlier this year.

  2. Hi Andy,

You are right Andy, we won’t all be able to get over $500 depending on how we meet the spending requirements and how we redeem it. Don’t forget to add the points on the purchases to your calculation. Depending on what type of purchases you made to earn 1x – 3x points, you’d have another 5000 – 15000 points to redeem, which could cover the annual fee. So it’s more like a range for the two years of $425-$650:

Minimum: $500 – $125 + $50 (for the gift card redemption for the minimum points on the $5k)
Maximum: $625 – $125 + $150 (for the airfare redemption and max points on the $5k)

Either way, you have a great point… last year we were able to pick up the $500 bonus offers in one year… I’m not liking the two year trend… but then again for $425 – $650, I might be willing to jump through some hoops!

  3. Citi also has another card without the annual fee with a smaller bonus.

  4. Thanks for this information. I need help with airfare for a family trip, this should help me out a bit.
