Free Credit Score and Credit Report
In case we decide to make an offer on the vacation home we’re considering, I’m getting everything lined up to apply for a mortgage (since they are at such attractive rates).
I always like to know exactly what our credit reports and scores are so there are no surprises, especially since I use so much 0% balance transfer money.
For this week’s Free Money Friday offer I’m using FreeCreditScore.com to check our credit reports and credit score.
How to Get Your Free Credit Score and Credit Report
- Sign up for a free trial of your FreeCreditScore.com and credit report.
- Get your credit report and score from Experian.
- Get 7 days of free access to credit monitoring, which includes Equifax and TransUnion.
Free Credit Score Terms and Conditions
- Monitoring with Experian begins within 48 hours of enrollment in your free trial. Monitoring with Equifax and TransUnion takes approximately 4 days to begin.
- If you don’t cancel your FreeCreditScore.com membership within the 7-day trial period, you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership.
- For an additional one-time fee you can also see your Equifax and TransUnion Credit Reports and Scores by ordering your Three-Bureau Report and Scores.

Credit Report Only. If you don’t need your score, you can use the annual Free Credit Report option. I used ours a few months ago, which is why I had to look for an alternative.
Canceling. To cancel the FreeCreditScore.com free trial you can call 1-877-300-2506. Officially, they give you 9 days to cancel without any charges.
Fico Scores. There are thousands of different score models, each based on their own proprietary model. To get your true fico score, you have to pay for it right now. I only want to make sure our scores are mortgage worthy, so I’m only interested in the free versions, which are affectionately nicknamed fako scores! To this day, I’ve never had a problem relying on the fako scores instead of the fico scores.
The Commercials. You guessed it! This is the same company that put out the goofy commercials years ago. I wasn’t a big fan of the commercials, but if they’re willing to give me the data I need for free, it works for me!
