- Have a picnic.
If you have nice weather at this time of year pack a lunch, grab a blanket, and have a simple picnic together. Find a scenic park or area that makes a nice spot to set up for the afternoon. If you’ve been together for a while, for a special twist, find a place the means something to you such as a park you used to walk in together. If it’s a first date, pick a place that shows a little bit about yourself like a place you used to visit when you were young or a place you take your niece, nephew, or your own children.
- Go to the beach.
Just like with a picnic, pack a cooler with drinks and snacks and head out to a nearby beach. Ditch your usual beach entertainment of a book, magazine, or headphones, and stick to things you have to do together. Grab a volleyball, beach ball, Frisbee, or just some chairs to sit, talk, and watch the waves. See 15 Frugal Ways to Enjoy the Beach for more ideas.
- Take a bike ride or hike.
Getting physical activity together is a healthy and great way to have fun as a couple. If you have bikes, find a bike path and head out. If not, look into nearby parks and forest preserves for good hiking trails that match your skill level.
- Go for a walk.
Even if your fitness level isn’t up for a hike or if you don’t have a bike, just take a stroll together. You can go to a local park, nature or forest preserve, or simply walk around your area. Make a pact not to talk about anything stressful the whole time.
- Go camping together.
Camping doesn’t have to be a huge event. No matter where you live, you can find a campground just a short trip away. If you’ve never camped before, you’ll discover a new adventure that you may even enjoy . Even though it is already inexpensive, there are many ways to save on camping including packing your own meals and borrowing any equipment you don’t already have.
