From the manufacturer

20 Years ago, two guys in college with too much time on their hands started making Fuf filled chairs with a cover sewn by mom and foam that they begged, borrowed and bartered from local manufacturers. With the question, 'why wouldn't everyone want one of these?' their quest for 'Comfort for All' began.

Today, Big Joe and Lux by Big Joe are a household name known for affordability, great designed chairs, pet beds and pool products. And, a few years ago the guys wanted to extend the 'Comfort for All' philosophy by giving 10% of products to bring comfort to those in need. So, when you buy a Big Joe Chair, you're not the only one who will be a bit more comfortable.

Product Description

This is it – the chair that brought Bean Bags out of the 70’s and into the new millennia, the one and only: the Big Joe Fuf Chair. So you might be asking, what in the world IS a Fuf? And how do I even say it?! Well the Fuf (pronounced FOOF), is a patented, one-of-a-kind seat not to be mistaken for your average bean bag chair (trust us, we know - we make those, too!) Follow the instructions and it's gold!
I've only had this thing for about 24 hours, but I had to go ahead and write a review for it, because it's amazing! It's supposed to take a few days to fully expand, but it's already huge. To give you an idea of how big it is, I'm attaching photos -- one for size reference, which as you can see, it's as big as my couch. I measured it the best I could, since it's round/cylindrical, and it's almost 6 feet long (maybe around 5'11ish) by a little over 4 feet wide, by 2'5" tall. A few reviews claim that it's not as fluffy as the picture -- well, they must not have read the instructions, because (as you can see) it's definitely fluffy enough! The box it arrives in is about 3 square feet (I can't give exact measurements, since it bulges a little bit, but it fit through my front door with about an inch or two to spare). When you cut the ties, the box pretty much opens itself. Just dump the chair out -- it weighs 60 pounds, so that might be a challenge for some. Once it's out of the box, the fun starts. Stretch it out, flip it a few times, shake it, punch it, kick it, jump on it -- whatever you can do to separate the foam inside. My guess is the people who complained about this product skipped that step. It's compressed in a small box, so naturally the foam is all stuck together, which is why you absolutely HAVE to separate the foam, otherwise it won't expand. Other reviews have complained about what the foam inside of it looks like. Did I open mine up to check? No. Why? Because who cares what the inside looks like?! As long as it serves its purpose, it doesn't matter. Form follows function, right? (or should I say, FOAM follows function!) And this thing definitely serves its function. It's super comfortable, whether sitting or laying on it (I'm using it as a bed now -- slept like a baby last night). In the picture, it looks a little wrinkly/lumpy -- that's because it hasn't finished expanding and it was wrinkled up from being crammed in that small box. When sitting/laying on it, it doesn't really feel lumpy. You do notice the chunks of foam inside a little bit, but it's not like they're poking you or anything -- they're foam, not wood after all. It's comfy, trust me! Overall, as if you couldn't tell from my review, I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a giant fluffy cloud to sit/sleep on! Forewarning though: the prices fluctuate on these a lot, so just keep an eye on them and buy when it's at a low price. I suggest using a site like The Tracktor to see a history of past pricing and get an e-mail report if the price changes. (Note: at the time of this review, this Fuf is still a reasonable price)

Like many others, I read the negative reviews before ordering. My adivce: don't put too much stock in them. Now, I admit it is a legitimate concern/critique of the product if you buy multiple units of the "same" color at once and the colors don't match. I can't speak to that. I only bought one. But some of the others I read?? Really? Claiming that it was despicably advertised as a styrofoam beanbag chair (which it wasn't), or that it has no filling and you fall to the floor? Really people? Did you not read the directions?

It should be seen as a positve that they vacuum pack the sucker into an amazingly small box (considering the final size of the product) to cut on their shipping costs (and to make it possible to move the box around). It clearly states in the included information that you have to WAIT for it it attain its full expanded shape. Right away, you can get your hands "in there" and knead the memory foam blocks inside, pulling them apart (through the supple cover of course) and shifting them so that the expansion goes as fast as possible but no matter what ... you have to WAIT. They will continue to expand for some time - not exactly sure but I wouldn't be surprised if there was still some expansion going on at 7 or 8 days.

One fact that people need to be aware of though (and some other reviewers have mentioned) is that this thing is BIG and it is unwieldy. Memory foam is heavy. I haven't weighed it on a scale but it would not surprise me to learn it is 20 - 30 lbs. and its size and composition makes that feel more like 50 or 60 lbs. So, even though it is a FANTASTIC chair/bag for kids, it isn't going to be easy for many of them to adjust/move it. In fact, smaller people with little hand/arm/upper body strength probably don't want to own this unless they have someone else living with them who can help them with it. My athletic and rather strong 9-year old niece
man-handled (or should I say girl-handled) the thing around but she's a tough, "get it done" kind of kid and wasn't intimidated by the awkward size or weight of the thing. The younger kids could barely shift it.

To really enjoy using it, you have to be ready each time to reach in with both hands, grab the material and lift the bag up and down many times vigorously. You have to slam it, flip it, shake it, fluff it up, and mold it to a form that suits you. If you want to lie on it, hop in the middle. If you want to sit upright and watch TV, you have to heap it up high and then sit low down on the edge of the thing and push yourself backwards into it. Experiment. Have fun. Don't be shy about yanking the sucker around.

One last note. Memory foam stinks. It isn't exactly a pleasant smell (though some find it more offensive than others of course) and it takes days ... perhaps weeks ... to dissipate. It didn't bother me much and obviously I'm not the kind of person to give the bag 1 star and rant about how the company lied to me because it didn't go out of its way to call out the smell specifically. I'm just trying to let anyone interested know that it does smell but it fades.

I ordered this product based on its description. Thankfully, I did not read the few negative reviews first. I read all the negative reviews while waiting for the product to be arrive and I was a bit worried. It want to set the record straight...although, of course, this is just my opinion.

For those that complain that his or her butt is on the ground or the XL Fuf is flat and provides no back support...I have to wonder...did they let it fully expand? If you see a posted picture and the product has fabric that is sagging anywhere in the picture...that is because it has been photographed before it fully expands. If it is pictured as being flat, that is because because the person has not fluffed it up. If one complains that it provides no back support, most likely that person can not figure out how to sit in such a way so as to support the back. Mine provides perfect back support. When it gets flat or out of shape, I simply refluff it.

The "sharp" foam bits are not sharp. They don't poke you in the back or the rump after the product fully expands. It takes several days to fully expand so patience goes a long way.

Yes, it smells at first. I brought it outside during the day for the first 2 days and the smell was barely noticeable after 3rd day.

I especially enjoyed reading the review of the person that said the 6 foot XL Fuf was horrible and huge...so big that he can't move it, can't send it back, can't give it away, or even lug it to the street for the garbage. That review is what I would consider to be made by a dramatic person that never seems to be pleased...the complaints are ridiculously exaggerated to the point of being funny. It's just not true. I am a 5'3" female with a prior shoulder and neck injury, with a hip issue, and a healing torn thigh muscle. I have a small frame and I weight 117 pounds. I can move it by myself. I roll it on to a sheet and pull it around...even out the door...which I did several times while airing it out...

As for the fabic. It is not too thin. I drag this thing around and flip it. It is sturdy enough. So far it has held up given the abuse of my 3 cats, of my 2 XL dogs, and of the ones with most destructive potential...my son and his friends (diving on it, etc.)

As for the seams, no problem. The is no reason to even grab in that area. So, I'm not sure why others have a problem with that...

I leave this review hoping that someone that reads those negative reviews..and really wants to get the product...but becomes discouraged...will consider the number of stars rather than the reviews of the complainers. Who knows...maybe the product has been improved...but then again maybe there was never anything fundamentally wrong with the complainer's chair in the first place.

I use my XL Fuf to cozy up I front of the fireplace and read a book. It is perfect. I ordered the black one.

Whatever you see in pictures or videos from big joe ain't what's in the box. It's flat af even after a week.
I wish I had opened it before the end of the return period. I've added a good 5-6lbs of foam and it's still nothing like the pictures. Sure it's big but as soon as there's a bit of weight it flattens out. It's pretty much like sitting on the floor with a pillow. With the extra foam it's a 250$ cat bed. At least my cat will enjoy it.

Not sure about the filling. It was a recycles foam mix, one piece was literally a chunk of one of those Nerf/dodge balls. But in the end it's a massive squishy seat for gaming.

Now to be fair there were people complaining about hard pieces and the smell. There were a few firmer parts, from what I can tell they are areas where the original foam piece was glued/attached to another foam chunk. None of it is hard, but stiff enough to sometimes be felt. Fluff the bag and move on.

As for smell, it reminded me of upholstery cleaner/sanitizer from when I helped at a hotel. It went away fairly quick, and I don't smell it at all now. Less then a week from arrival.

Only thing I will say, considering also buying a heavy cushion or pillow. Line it up inside the bag under where you sit. As with a actual beanbag, you will sink and displace the filling.

I've owned this big ole Fuf for over 4 months now. Many movie nights with the missus in our theatre room have been had.

I was initially concerned about the foam breaking down over time, but so far it's as good as new after you fluff it up post-use (I find kicking it like a deserving enemy, or excessively large soccer ball works great).

If I had one complaint, it would be missing half of the movies I watch because this thing is so comfortable I fall asleep!
