I bought the Sunbeam mini donut maker on a whim. I've recently had to give up gluten, which means no more spur of the moment sugar binging at the grocery store, or quick runs to Dunkin' Donuts for bites of chocolate covered deliciousness. Either I make it at home, or go without, and since going without isn't nearly as delightful as mouthfuls of soft chewiness covered in powdered sugar, I'm having to resort to making it at home. Hence, the mini donut maker.
I found a great donut recipe in Nicole Hunn's gluten free cookbook (wonderful cookbook for gluten free recipes, and no, I don't get any kickback for making this recommendation), and on Christmas Eve, my daughter and I gave it a whirl. It took me longer to pull the ingredients out of the pantry and fridge than it did to whip up a batch of the sinfully deliciousness tidbits. After the first round came out of the mini donut maker, we'd already begun to mentally select our next batch of soft chewiness.
This mini donut maker does the job beautifully. So beautifully, that it's simplicity and fast creation of donuts is evil, pure evil. The only recommendation I'd have is that the instructions that came with it recommended that it take up to 5 minutes to cook in the donut maker, where we found that 3-4 minutes was the time to perfection.
Buy this mini donut maker at your own risk. Your tastebuds will love you, your hips will curse you.
March 2013 Update: This mini donut maker continues to be evil in it's quest to make the cutest little donuts ever to tempt humankind. My mom was so entranced by it's evilness that she was lured into purchasing one for herself.

Very tasty within minutes - Sunbeam Quality product-super easy clean
as you can see by the posting of pix for everyone to see what NOT to do as they say in the instructions. [Went back and tried Ice Cream scoop - still too much - DEF filling with your regular dining TEASPOON works perfect - We used a Betty Crocker* Cherry Chip cake mix/ 2 eggs - 1 cup milk/1 TBS oil. Now have ordered the French Vanilla to try - EXCELLENT - Posting pix for now so one can see we DID NOT follow the over fill warning - They were done in abt. 4 min. and disappeared in less time - They do freeze well as the cake mixes make a larger amount than recipes in the book. Those in front don't look cooked - but they were - just not as brown on top as lid not latched as they say you should do. Didn't notice that it was BABY Blue - but will be stored in closed cabinet when not in use. UPDATED: 5/11/2012 Betty Crocker Triple Choc Cake mix excellent making 70 perfect donuts [using only two eggs] taking about 5 min per batch - freeze very well - those that aren't snatched up as soon as released from baker. - Highly recommend this unit and may order the Yellow - larger 5 donut maker - although this makes a size that is perfect for a person to have 2 or 3 rather than one large and 'wanting' a second one.
