With my 18 month old still sleeping in her crib and my wife due here soon, it was time to buy another mattress. We had an extra one in storage so we got it out to give to our 18 month old, and give her mattress to the baby because the mattress she sleeps on is also a Colgate mattress that was purchased over 14 years ago and has been used for all 14 years, the model of the one we have owned for 14 years is identical to this mattress I purchased, the older one came as a set with a Bellini crib.
This mattress is perfect. I went around looking at stores for a mattress as firm as this one, and none came close. Mattresses that cost twice as much felt like big pillows which is not good for newborns or children. There is a reason this mattress has been rated #1 year after year. I was very pleased to see Colgate making the exact same mattress as they did 14 years ago, same quality, super light weight, and very firm. No need for water proof crib mattress covers, the material this mattress is made out of is truly waterproof and durable, the Colgate mattress we have had for 14 years has no tears and the foam is just about as firm as the new mattress. All of our kids have slept on this mattress till they were about 3 years old and slept great!
I can not so enough about this mattress, It's perfect.
One reviewer complained about the mattress being as firm as a wood plank. That is actually a good thing, and recommended by doctors. This is a VERY firm foam mattress, when you lay your child on it, it does not sink AT ALL. If there was a mattress any firmer then this, it would literally be a plank of wood with no padding. Again, every newborn we have had, has slept on this mattress and they have all slept great, and this will be baby #6(the last).
If you truly want the best mattress for your newborn or child, this is it. I would never buy any other mattress. This is also the safest mattress you can buy.
It is scary how flimsy and soft most other companies are making crib mattresses now which is dangerous for newborns to sleep on.
