Our 4th carrier and finally a winner!

Our 4th carrier and finally a winner!
The baby bjorn carrier is my 4th or 5th carrier that I’ve tried with my 2 boys. The first kid (he’s now 8) I had a sling carrier that worked but wasn’t very convenient. I couldn’t really do anything while holding him. Then I got a Moby wrap when he was about 4 months old. It was cool, but I never mastered how to put it on without watching videos or having help from my husband. So this baby I knew I wanted an ergo. I’d heard so many amazing things I knew I was going to get one. Fast forward to after having the baby, and he hated it. I was so disappointed. It might have been the infant insert that he hated, I’ll try it again at some point. But I bought the baby bjorn because I read reviews that it was better for smaller babies (he was 6 pounds when born and now at 3 months he’s probably 12). This was so easy to put on and take off. I didn’t need help from anyone and never even watched a video. He likes it a lot and once fell asleep in it! Yay! It was also a great price. Amazon fluctuates so much on cost that that is not really a selling point I can guarantee. But I can say that this carrier has been a winner for this baby and hopefully yours too! Every time I purchase something online, I always check the reviews. I count on others to help me choose the best option. My reviews are always my honest opinion and I try to include photos if possible. If my review has helped you in any way, please click the "helpful" button below so that I know! I had bought an Ergobaby (Performance) with newborn insert before because I was told that it's the best. While the Ergo worked for my now 10 week old baby boy, we didn't feel comfortable using it with the newborn insert. It gets pretty hot in summer, I felt like I had to hold the head all the time since it was very far down and I was worried the baby would suffocate, the two worst things were that first, the baby didn't feel completely comfortable because the legs were in a weird angle and his feet were still inside the carrier, my baby doesn't like if something is pressing against his feet, he wanted to push back and stand up and then cried many times. Second, it didn't feel safe to put the carrier on alone with the baby in the newborn insert since I could only hold him in the insert against my body with one hand while putting on the carrier and one time he actually almost fell out.

For these reasons, I ordered the Babybjoern original and we love it. He feels comfortable in there, his head sticks out the right length (hight of the carrier can be adjusted) so he doesn't suffocate, his legs hang down as he likes it, he is in a better upright position, because the Babybjorn is less wide on the sides. It is super easy and fast to put on and there is no risk of him falling out. Another advantage which I have not tried out yet is that the baby can face forward.

There are a few downsides with the Babybjorn: it doesn't have a hip belt so the weight is on the shoulders/ back and it might hurt once the baby is older and when walking longer distances, it works "only" for babies up to 25lb/11kg (Ergo Performance up to 45lb/20kg), no sun cover (which I like in Ergo).

CONCLUSION: The Babybjoern is much better for me and my 10 week old baby boy. I am sure that once the baby gets older and can stick out his head on the top and his legs can hang out on the sides at the bottom and once he is heavier (hip belt will be needed), we will prefer the Ergo so I am glad that I have those two!

    Summary
    Pros Babybjoern Original:
    - easy, safe and fast to put on
    - forward facing option
    - can be adjusted to the length of the baby, so the head sticks out the right way
    - more comfortable foot/ leg position for a newborn
    - nice straight upright position for a newborn

Pros Ergobaby Performance with newborn insert
    - very nice hip belt, so the weight is on the hips not on the shoulders
    - higher weight limit, so it works for older children (up to 45lb/20kg for Ergo, 25lb/11kg for Babybjorn)
    - nice sun cover
    - equally easy to put on once the newborn insert is not needed anymore

My baby is 7 weeks old. And there's 12 years between him and his older brothers. "Back then" the Bjorn was the only way to go. This is the exact model I had back then. Now, there are so many new carriers on the market, I ended up getting three different styles all together to try out.

It helps to determine what you want a baby carrier for.

QUICK AND EASY - Bjorn or Ring Sling? I wanted to get a carrier where I could just wear a newborn baby around the house, grocery store, and running short errands. I wanted something easy. Ultimately I chose the Bjorn for wearing around the house and short errands. It's absolutely perfect right out of the box. Incredibly low maintenance, not too hot, easy to take on and off, baby loves it and it was worth every penny. (I just got the basic model and it was about $50.) I really wanted to rock the ring sling but it didn't work out for me. The fabric was heavy, stiff and uncomfortable. I never seemed to be able to get the baby positioned right. I'm sure being a newborn didn't help. The sling felt awkward and that there wasn't much support. I never seems to get it tight enough. I sent it back and stuck with the low-maintenance Bjorn Original.

SUPPORTIVE FOR LONG WALKS/HIKES - I wanted a beefier carrier for walking a couple miles at a time and longer treks to zoo/parks and such. For the trekking around, long hikes/walks etc., I bought the Ergo Baby Love. It has better support for longer distances. However, the fabric is considerably heavier and there's a lot more of it. A newborn also needs an insert that is pretty toasty. But, I really love this carrier and so does baby. The biggest downside (or only downside) is that it's more time consuming to put on - especially with the newborn insert. It's a bit much for just vacuuming, cooking or walking baby around for short errands.

My son and I both love this carrier. We tried quite a few different kinds and ended up sticking with the Baby Bjorn in Black/Pinstripe. The black with pinstripe inside is a very classic pattern and will pretty much match anything that you're wearing. It's also good for daddy since it's not a feminine color. It's also very easy to use! I put it on by sliding the shoulder straps on, then clipping the bottom of the straps to the body of the carrier. I then take my son and place him on my belly and then lift the carrier up in between his legs and hold it against his back. I then clip in the sides and then the top. Technically you're supposed to slide your child in once it's all clipped in but I find it easier to do it my way. I like the fact that you can wear your child either facing you or away from you. I use this carrier when I need to get things done around the house (or am cooking) and my son needs some cuddle time. It works great and I feel very confidant that he's secure in the carrier. I've also ditched the stroller and now go on daily walks with him in his Bjorn instead. Not only is it easy to go on walks, but he's much happier since he's cuddling with mommy (and eventually falls asleep) and I get a better work out since I'm carrying his extra weight. I highly recommend this carrier; it's a bit pricey but it's definitely worth it!

Me gusto demasiado.
