Disney's 1986 Flight of the Navigator combines a strong ensemble cast and classic '80s soundtrack with dazzling special effects for a high-flying sci-fi adventure. While searching for his little brother in the woods, 12-year-old David Freeman (Joey Cramer) falls down a ravine and is knocked unconscious. After what seems like minutes, he returns home, only to discover that eight years have passed since he was declared missing and presumed dead. Even more mystifying is that David hasn't aged, nor can he account for the time lapse. Meanwhile, NASA officials stumble upon a futuristic spacecraft and are determined to assess what David knows about it by locking him in a top-secret lab for scanning and testing. His only chance of escape is in the spacecraft manned by Max, a wisecracking robot. Cramer gives an earnest performance, which overcomes an imperfect script, while enough one-liners and imaginative animation will keep families engaged. Watch for Sarah Jessica Parker in one of her first film appearances. Rated PG for language. (Ages 6 and older) --Lynn Gibson

A forgotten 80s classic
5 out of 5 stars
A forgotten 80s classic
I remember watching the flight of the navigator over 30 years ago as a kid. It was a great flick but short. I also feel that it is a forgotten classic of the 80s. I recently purchased this region free import and was impressed with the sound quality and remastered picture. It was great watching this classic movie again 33 years later. Unfortunately the dvd version was the only one that was released in America and we never got an official blue ray release. As of now this region free European version is the only official release available for blue ray and you cant go wrong buying it. I highly recommend this for fans of classic 80s films.

I love this film (Seen it countless times while growing up
It's still to this day one of the Smartest Written Disney Films ever
It gets dismissed by Sci Fi fans/ time travel fans
It's in the same league as The "Original" Back to the Future
The film is pretty simple a boy is chasing his little brother in the woods falls
wakes up 8 year in the future (but, his fall seemed like it only lasted a quick moment)
He goes home unaware this is NOT the same home he left only a few min prior
and the story picks up and goes It's 90 minutes and it's a quick 90min.
They got a whole lot of Story and F/X throughout the film

The UFO which is Both Practical effect and early CGI looks really good most of the time
I think it's held up as good as it has due to the fact they used Both Practical & CGI
    The cast was good
Joey Cramer was a good child actor that did a few Big Studio Films then diapered from acting all together (which is a Shame cause he was good for someone that young) But, looking back at the track record of Hollywood Child Stars he did what was best for him

Veronica Cartwright as the Mom (Great Casting a truly under-rated actress that can do anything!) She was in the first Alien that makes her a Rock Star in my eyes... I always felt her roll as Helen Freeman David's mother was so great (Maybe one of the most under-rated mothers in the 1980's)

Cliff De Young as the Dad (Much like casting Veronica Cartwright perfect father) he too has been around a while and can do anything I always loved him in this flick Cause he's the dad I'm sure every kid want!

Sarah Jessica Parker (Young Adult) it's interesting to see her in this film she's pretty young it's after Square Pegs so she's grown into a young woman Her performance isn't anything special but, It's interesting to see her at this age (The first time i seen this film i thought she was very pretty) Who would've thought she would've become a massive star in the mid to late 90's into today

Howard Hesseman (He was a odd choice mostly due to the fact he always played a lovable beatnik hippie on tv) In this he's simply a Bad guy that use a 12 year old boy for his own self reasons

and last but, not least the great Iconic Paul Reubens as the Space Ship's AI Max
very smart casting I'm pretty sure this was his first v/o work and it's amazing how good the final product turned out
he would later do a laundry list of v/o work!

If you never seen this and you are at least 21 or so shame on you
How could you have never seen this simple but, enjoyable family Sci Fi flick

Second Sight is this very cool little Distrusting House (Much like Twilight Times) some of there releases are Region B though But, there prices are Not anywhere Near the high mark-up price TT is)
The Audio Commentary with Director & Producer is very cool it's a very cool Exclusive
If this does ever get a Region 1 (US & Canada Blu Ray Release i doubt it'll have this Commentary track)
If you grew up loving this film it's a real buried treasure being on Blu Ray
If you buy it from various sellers you can snag a copy for around $14.99 it's worth it
The PQ is really nice the Disney DVD actually was leaps and bounds next to the VHS Home video version
Had the old VHS it had lines from pausing through out the tape I watched the vhs version a lot) I'm not even sure if it's playable now?
So the HD Blu Ray version is at least 5x better as far as PQ if you compare it to the DVD
2.0 PCM audio is better then the 2.0 on the dvd (I really wish it was 5.1 Cause the film has so much going on in different scenes it could benefit having better surround sound
It's one of those strange films from the 80's almost everyone seen But, people don't remember it's name
It's held up, there are very small things that make it seem dated some of the clothes, hairstyle and the rock band Twisted Sister is brought up
For a 1980's Disney film there is some language but, it's Nothing major
It's really under appreciated still to this day
All those children of the 80's should introduce there kids to this film
This Blu Ray is a true must have to add to any Collection 8.5/10

This has always been a great "Kid Friendly, Family, Fun movie"!!
David, a 12 year old boybwho lives in Florida with both parents , his dog Bruiser & his VERY ANOYING little brother Jeff.
While going to a neighbors on the 4th of july to bring Jeff home David falls into a ravine after being scared by Jeff in the woods. Waking up after falling, David heads home to deal with Jeff only to find his family doesn't live there anymore.
David has actually been missing for 8 years.
The police are called to help this lost boy, locating his family, everyone is puzzled to where David has been for so long, "WITHOUT AGING ONE DAY".
David was abducted by an alien spaceship, when it returned David home to the exact spot in that ravine, it just happened to be 8 years later. Now the alien ship needs David because it stored star charts in David's memory , so it can't get home .
Fun , fun, fun. All kids love this very adventurous movie.
My two grandkids, 8 years & 3 years of age couldn't stop watching. When it ended they stated it over again. Sarah Jessica Parker is seen in this movie with her purple hair after going to a "TWISTED SISTER" CONCERT, and David's favorite tv show "STARSKY & HUTCH" WAS CANCELLED. Yeah the saying is true "TIME FLYS WHEN YOUR HAVING FUN". This movie does just that.
