For Love and Money: How to Share the Same Checkbook and Still Love Each Other Paperback – April 3, 1995

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

Traditionally couples have viewed finances separately from relationships and have managed them with pencils, checkbooks, and calculators. Bernard E. Poduska explains why most financial problems are not money problems but behavior problems. You'll be able to better understand the role of finances and relationships, reduce or eliminate many money-management problems, and establish a functional financial management program that provides for the temporal and spiritual needs of the whole family. A practical device that incorporates a workbook and case studies.

Excellent resource! After 4 years of marriage, we already have a good rhythm for how we as a couple spend (and should spend). Yet we have been astonished by how much insight this book offers, and how much it is helping our marriage. We never read more than 2 pages without getting into a thoughtful, heartfelt discussion that draws us closer together. These conversations have helped us to understand each other in new ways, and we are now even closer and happier in almost every aspect of our marriage. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

In addition to practical principles about saving, discussing major purchases as a couple, and so on, the book explores the personality characteristics behind money use. Some of the more unexpected (though surprisingly related) topics range from how one's parents expressed love to sibling order to victim and martyr tendencies. This is one of the most life-changing books I have ever read.
