Favorite toy for her first birthday!
I got this for my niece's first birthday and she loved it! Takes no time to set it up, just take it out if the easy to open package and lift the tabs. Very cute and she can enjoy it when she gets a little bigger. The material seems very sturdy too, I think it will last a while.

    I bought this tunnel over five years ago for my oldest boy. Three more boys later it is still holding up to what they can dish out! It's a tunnel to hide in. It's a monster caterpillar who chases down It's prey! Close it with one velcro strap and It's a rolly polly!

    My 3-year old niece LOVED this from the get go! She loved hiding in it, watching movies from it, and she even had the adults pull her around it for a fun ride and slide (we have hardwood floors). I was surprised by how sturdy it felt, and the colors and detail were a plus. I really liked how it compresses flat and slides right into its storage bag. My sister-in-law is very chemical conscious so i try to be careful about the materials in the toys I buy for her kids, but I thought the negative PVC review for the small "eye" of the caterpillar was a bit much. I'll keep my concerns about PVC to things used for eating or drinking (plates, cups, etc), not a teeny eye on large, well-ventilated toy, but that's just me.

    We gave this to our twins for their first birthday. They and our 3.5 year old absolutely LOVE playing in it! It's great to allow babies who usually play side by side to really interact with each other and their older sister playing peekaboo, chase, etc. Our older daughter stands up through the tube and holds one end under her chin like a standing, waving caterpillar, and the babies think she's hilarious. The tunnel squashes down to a hoop about as big around as your arms and velcros closed, making it an easily portable item to bring along to other people's houses. Instant fun for multiple kids! Adults can even fit inside and pretend to "eat" little ones by putting the other end of the tunnel over them. What an awesome toy!

    As for durability, it's made of lightweight fabric, probably polyester, so if you took something sharp to it, it wouldn't hold up, but there shouldn't be sharp things in a kids' play area anyway. My daughter put some pen on it during a random marker rampage, but the lines came right off when wiped.

    Someone mentioned the caterpillar face end caps have PVC in them--I think the toy is more fun and versatile without the end caps on. They attach with velcro, so you can just leave them off.

    My daughter started climbing underneath everything so I thought this would be a great toy for her to enjoy. I was correct. This tunnel is awesome. It is very well made. When we are done using it, it easily collapses for simple storage (huge plus so it isn't taking over my living room all day). We don't have the ends on the tunnel (caterpillar face). My daughter won't go through it unless they are off. You can easily keep them on or off. My daughter has played with it for a few weeks and it seems to be holding up very well. She has bitten it, tried to stand up in it, pulls it across the room, and throws toys in it. So far NO rips! I'm very happy with this purchase! Other reviewers mentioned the Velcro tabs sticking to the carpet. All you have to do it Velcro them together? My daughter actually enjoys pulling the Velcro tabs apart and putting them back together. Overall great product!!

    Our little girl LOOOOOVVVVEEESSSS crawling through this. Or does she love crawling through tunnels in general? Regardless she enjoys it and we do trust Melissa & Doug products. The end covers that have the caterpillar face don't really stay on all that well and to be honest I don't think they're all that necessary. One thing I noticed, and I don't have other tunnels to compare this to, is that the tunnel rolls a tiny bit when my little girl is crawling through it as her hands hit one side of the tunnel then the other. It never rolls over of course but my wife and I make sure to watch the entrances and sometimes hold it for stability. I imagine it's difficult for a company to weight these things down because you wouldn't want your little one tumbling into something heavy.

    Don't even get me started on folding this thing up. It's very springy and takes a bit of dexterity to fold and then wrap the velcro. I assume after some practice this would get a bit easier. THis thing is so springy that I sometimes fold it up and place it on the floor and count down 3, 2, 1 for my girl and let and shoot out upward, which she enjoys.

    Get the tunnel, it's a tunnel, your baby will like to crawl in it. I tried once or twice. Less easy for us big people, but fun to worm through yourself!

    My boys LOVE their collapsable tunnels and tents, and this is the biggest hit so far. They're 4 and 6 and this tunnel is a good size for them (and smaller kiddos). The love the the "caps" (caterpillar heads) on the ends of the tunnel, and I love that it's very well constructed, especially compared to other tunnels I've purchased or were gifted over the years. This one will last a while. The only downside: instead of ties, the tunnel has velcro loops. This seemed appealing at first, but it's actually more challenging to close this way. It's not a deal breaker, though, because the tunnel usually stays open in our house. Don't hesitate; the kids will love it!

    This tunnel is cute and attractive and my daughter was very excited to see it show up; however after I opened it it smelled pretty strongly. I let it air out for a few days before I had my kids play in it. Now that we've had it for a couple months, I don't notice the smell too much, but there is still a faint odor. The ends that have the plastic (where the face of the caterpillar exists) are detachable so you could probably leave those off to omit the smell issue people are complaining about. The tunnel is great for child's play. My kids (8 months but cruisng, and 2) both love moving through it, playing peekaboo from opposite ends and even getting in and rolling it sideways. Not really big enough for an adult but I'm pretty tiny and can get in partway to grab hiding kiddos. Folds up pretty well too when needed.
