And working traffic lights. And, should I ever need it, I'm pretty sure I'll be grateful for 911 service -- police or otherwise. Then there's national parks (if you're a senior or disabled, you get in free, and even if you pay something, you can bet that doesn't cover the extensive costs of a national forest). Museums and plays that are supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. Oh, and when I was bringing in only $800 a month and my then-fiance-now-husband was working for $10 an hour and wasn't yet covered by insurance, we were quite grateful for programs that allowed the hospital to write off the $1200 bill for a single night's stay in a hospital.
