I've also completed and been approved on one of the "freebie" sites for $1000, and expect the check/gift card to come in the first week of January (easy cash if you're careful and follow the rules), and also sold for parts some broken/junk laptops people have given to me over the year on eBay, which brought in another couple hundred (moderate effort, I spread the word that I will recycle dead laptops). All this, when the dust settles, will effectively provide me with a "net zero" spending for the holidays.
