For my dollar-a-day challenge today, I took advantage of a flyer that came in the mail. It was likely in a credit card envelope. Normally I throw all the junk mail away, but since starting the challenge, I’m taking a closer look at things before tossing them. Like the coupons I found in the mail.

The sign-up for the Etrade complete savings account gives a bonus of $25 if you open a new account before 12/31/2007. You need to be an American express card-member. However, it did not ask me anything about my status with American Express. There was a link listed, but I noticed it does not work any longer. You can call 1-800-ETRADE1, press 1 and mention code 4140.

To open the account, you need to fund it with $1. After that the account features no minimums, no account fees and is currently earning 4.7%.

I opened the account in about five minutes with the help of Roboform. Hopefully my $25 will show up without any hassles. Because the offer is good for one new account per customer, I already have tomorrows challenge in mind, opening an account for my husband. And of course, I’ll need to investigate whether or not Etrade allows accounts for the kids.

Update: Even though the promo has ended, you can still open a high-yield savings account with Etrade to get the interest, you just won’t get the bonus money.
