Citi 100,000 American Airlines Miles Sign Up Bonus

Posted by Madison on February 28, 2014

During my $1,720 + 267k Point Credit Card Application Spree, I added a new card at the last minute, the Citi Executive card for 100,000 American Airlines miles!

Up to this point I’ve been shy about adding airline miles, but I just couldn’t pass up this offer!

The offer also includes a $200 in statement credit. The bonus is the Featured Deal this week.

How to Get Your Bonus

  2. Spend $10,000 in the first 3 months of opening your account.
  3. Earn 100,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles!
  4. Plus, earn $1 statement credit for every $1 you spend in your first year – up to $200.

Terms and Conditions

    • Annual fee of $450.
    • Not available to existing cardmembers or recent applicants for a Citi® / AAdvantage® credit card.

More on AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard

Perks while you travel. As a cardmember, your first checked bag is free, you receive priority boarding and priority check-in (at business class check-in kiosks even if you are not flying business class).

Admirals Club Membership Privileges. Perhaps the best perk this card offers is that it allows you membership privileges to the American Airlines Admirals Club® lounges around the world, a huge benefit for frequent travelers. It’s not something I plan to use, but some of you who travel a lot may find this benefit valuable.

No foreign purchase fees. This is a great card for international travel as you won’t incur any foreign exchange fees.

Earn additional EQM’s. Earn 10,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) after you reach $40,000 in eligible purchases on your card. This can be helpful for people who are trying to gain status on American. Although the spending requirement is high, you may be able to capitalize on it if you do a lot of business spending.

Do the math. I probably never would have considered a card with an annual fee of $450 before. That’s just crazy! Although, if you subtract the statement credit of $200, it’s more like a $250 annual fee, which is still pretty steep. However, once I realized the 100,000 miles can fly four of us round trip in the US, I began to envision going somewhere warm for a bargain price of only $250!

Waived Annual Fee Option

If you are interested in a waived annual fee or lower spending requirement but still want the benefits of an AAdvantage card that can help you earn miles, the Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard® is another great option.
