Chase AARP Visa $200 Sign Up Bonus

The AARP credit card from Chase just doubled their sign up bonus to $200. The sign up bonus is usually $100.

We joined AARP to get this card years ago. Despite common assumptions, you can join AARP at any age! Although to get the card and sign up bonus, you don’t actually need to join AARP anymore.

The Chase AARP credit card earns 1-3% cash back on purchases. The Chase AARP card cash back for restaurants at 3% is a good card to use when restaurants are not on the list for quarterly 5% rotating credit cards [1].

AARP Membership

You do not need an AARP membership to apply for the card. The card says it’s designed for AARP members and the application asks for your membership number. However, I was able to bypass the first screen without entering a number. I also found data points [6] for recent applications without a membership number.

If you prefer to become a member first to get a membership number, you can join AARP [7] for $16. You can join AARP with a limited membership at any age. The AARP membership includes a free membership for your spouse, you can coordinate your AARP Visa sign up bonus to double it. As long as your spouse opens an AARP Chase credit card within the year, they can use the free membership.

My husband and I just joined AARP to get the card six years ago but did not need to renew our membership to keep the card. When we first mentioned this card, a reader Rory voiced concern about the AARP organization. As always, I encourage you to only take advantage of deals that you feel comfortable with. If the AARP’s mission doesn’t align with your values, then by all means, pass on this deal. There will always be another Free Money [2] deal…. next Friday of course!
